If you’re reading this, you likely want your yard to be the envy of your Lakeville, MN community. We don’t blame you! So, here’s what you need to know about crafting the perfect lawn care program for your yard:
1. Don’t cut your grass too short.
The temptation to cut the grass super short so you don’t have to mow it as often is great.. But your grass needs to be taller to allow the soil to stay shaded, thereby reducing water evaporation and encouraging deeper roots and fewer weeds. Maybe a few extra mows is worth less weeding time? So, don’t cut more than one-third of the blade of grass at a time.
2. Don’t overdo the watering.
To keep your grass at its healthiest, do a slow, deep watering only every now and then. According to Lakeville’s City Watering Ordinance, you should be watering up to 1 inch of water in a week instead of frequent, shallow waterings.
3. Be proactive with pests.
When it comes to all the beetles and grubs, it’s important to use put down grub control. If you’re unsure about the types of turf care or timing, please reach out to us and ask for help. But, the worst thing is to let it go for another year without any kind of management.
4. Clean up after your canines.
Our animals are like our family, except for the fact that they go to the bathroom in the great outdoors… also known as your yard. The same yard you want to look beautiful and be able to relax and enjoy. If you start to see dead spots in the grass, do a water flush of the area to dilute the urine in the soil and consider creating a mulched or pebbled area for your animals in the future.
5. No parking!
Sometimes storage in the yard is unavoidable; but if you know this item doesn’t need to be there, find another spot. Any item resting on your grass for an extended period compacts the soil killing the grass. Consider also limiting your paths and walking on the grass during excessive heat so the turf doesn’t get damaged.
